Lessors‘ role in aviation’s transition

The aviation transition is accelerating. Financiers, SAF and CDR producers and aggregators, and aircraft lessors share a common interest in ensuring that capital flows efficiently into scalable climate solutions.

Aircraft lessors already contribute to fleet renewal by providing young, fuel-efficient aircraft. However, fleet efficiency alone will not achieve net zero. Given their scale, access to capital markets, and contractual position between airlines and manufacturers, lessors are uniquely positioned to act as facilitators of the transition.

This project explores how the traditional lessor business model could evolve to:

  • Help de-risk SAF and CDR supply
  • Aggregate demand
  • Mobilise blended and private finance
  • Accelerate investment in necessary infrastructure
